ARTIS is one of the five historic zoos in the world, located 10 minutes from central Amsterdam. See baby elephants, historic buildings, and exhibitions. At the ARTIS Aquarium, see coral reefs, sea creatures, and aquatic life found in Amsterdam’s canals. The exhibitions also explain the importance of water for living beings. The renovated Kerbert Terrace, the former lion enclosure, is home to ring-tailed lemurs, red-collared lemurs, and Madagascar radiated tortoises. Explore the ARTIS Planetarium and learn about space, the universe, and Earth’s place in it. The zoo also has vegetarian restaurants and food stalls, as well as daily talks by animal caretakers about animals such as jaguars, gorillas, and Asian elephants.
